Jared Carthalion, True Heir

Legendary Creature — Human Warrior

When Jared Carthalion enters, target opponent becomes the monarch. You can't become the monarch this turn.
If damage would be dealt to Jared Carthalion while you're the monarch, prevent that damage and put that many +1/+1 counters on it.

Jared Carthalion, True Heir card art
Jared Carthalion, True Heir lands as a five-color threat that accumulates +1/+1 counters whenever opponents deal damage to you, then converts those counters into monarch-fueled card advantage — the payoff is real, but the five-color mana cost and the requirement to actually lose the monarch first make him a build-around, not a plug-and-play threat. Pair him with Animation Module to spin every incoming counter into a Servo and the engine runs itself.

Commander is the only home that makes sense for Jared Carthalion, True Heir — the monarch mechanic is designed for multiplayer, damage is plentiful from multiple opponents, and a five-color identity gives access to every counter-synergy and monarch payoff in the game. In Legacy or Vintage, where he's technically legal, a five-mana creature that requires setup and relies on being attacked is simply not a realistic inclusion against the speed of those formats. Oathbreaker shares the multiplayer context but the smaller deck size and faster games make the monarch engine harder to assemble reliably.

Price Context

Current price

$0.20 bulk tier

At $0.20, Jared Carthalion, True Heir is deep bulk — the price reflects casual demand only, not competitive demand. It's a stable floor; nothing about the card's power ceiling is likely to push it out of the bulk bin.
