Jarad's Orders puts one creature into your hand and a second directly into your graveyard for four mana — that's two pieces of a combo assembled in a single spell. It's the cleanest tutor The Beamtown Bullies can run, and in any deck that wants creatures in the bin as much as in play, four mana is a reasonable price for that kind of dual delivery.

The Beamtown Bullies
Jarad's Orders is a near-auto-include here: tutoring the creature you want to throw at opponents straight to the graveyard is exactly what The Beamtown Bullies needs, and the spell does it while finding a second threat for hand.

Kathril, Aspect Warper
Kathril, Aspect Warper needs keyword-dense creatures in the graveyard before it enters, and Jarad's Orders dumps the right creature into the bin while fetching another to hold in hand for a follow-up.

Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Jarad's Orders stocks the graveyard to inflate Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord's power and set up sacrifice fodder — the hand half grabs whatever piece is missing from the engine.

Meren of Clan Nel Toth
Meren of Clan Nel Toth wants high-value creatures in the graveyard to recur, and Jarad's Orders does the setup work while keeping your hand stocked, which is why it shows up in roughly one in six Meren lists.

The Mimeoplasm
Jarad's Orders lets The Mimeoplasm decks assemble two creatures for the exile clause in one shot — one to the graveyard now, one in hand ready to follow.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the only format where Jarad's Orders is genuinely sought after. The four-mana cost is too slow and too narrow for Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer, where unconditional tutors exist at lower cost and creature-in-graveyard payoffs rarely demand a dedicated setup spell. In Oathbreaker the effect is playable in the right shell but the format's smaller game count limits how often it appears. Jarad's Orders is a Commander card through and through — it exists to power engines that need creatures in two zones simultaneously, and those engines almost exclusively live in the 100-card format.

Price Context
Current price
$1.02 cheap tier
At $1.02, Jarad's Orders sits in the cheap tier — full access to a dual-mode tutor for essentially nothing. It's a staple in enough graveyard and reanimator strategies that the price is unlikely to drop further; if anything, additional printings in precons are the only thing keeping it this low.
