Jalum Tome card art
Jalum Tome lets you draw a card every turn for two mana, then discard one — net zero cards, for a net two mana, at sorcery speed. Better looting engines exist at lower activation costs, and any deck that needs card quality over card advantage should look elsewhere first.

Format Analysis

In Commander, Jalum Tome is outclassed by nearly every comparable looting artifact — Smuggler's Copter, Skullclamp, and Faithless Looting all do more for less. It sees fringe play in discard-matters or graveyard-centric builds where the discard is the point, not the cost. In Pauper, the common card pool is thinner and artifact-based card selection has real value, making Jalum Tome a viable budget option in artifact or graveyard shells. Legacy and Vintage have no use for it — the power ceiling in those formats makes a three-mana artifact that loots at sorcery speed irrelevant.

Price Context

Current price

$0.99 bulk tier

At $0.99, Jalum Tome sits at the top of bulk pricing with no expectation of climbing — it's not on any format's radar as a staple. Pick it up if the effect fits your build; don't hold it for value.
