Jade Monolith card art
Jade Monolith lets you redirect combat damage aimed at your creatures onto yourself — a specific trick that's nearly useless in most decks but becomes a core engine in a handful of commanders that reward taking damage, most notably Darien, King of Kjeldor. The activation cost and the narrowness of the effect mean Jade Monolith earns a slot only when your commander explicitly cares about damage hitting your face; everywhere else, it's a three-mana do-nothing.

Darien, King of Kjeldor creates a Soldier token for each damage you take, and Jade Monolith lets you funnel combat damage from any of your creatures straight to yourself — turning every blocked or unblocked attacker into a token factory on demand.

Jade Monolith is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a three-mana artifact with a one-mana redirect activation when those formats are over before the engine ever matters. Commander is the only format where Jade Monolith sees real play, and even there it's strictly a build-around piece — Horobi, Death's Wail decks can use the targeting activation to destroy their own creatures on cue, and Darien, King of Kjeldor decks use it as a damage engine. Outside those specific commanders, Jade Monolith does nothing a competitive or even casual Commander deck wants.
