Iwamori of the Open Fist is a 5/5 trample for four mana — that rate is genuinely good. The catch is that every opponent gets to put a legendary creature from their hand onto the battlefield for free when it enters, which in Commander means you're potentially gifting three players their commanders or best legends simultaneously.

In Commander, Iwamori of the Open Fist is almost always a liability — three opponents each potentially dropping a free Atraxa, Praetors' Voice or Tymna the Weaver the turn you play a 5/5 is a losing trade in most pods. The card has a real home only in legendary-synergy builds where Reki, the History of Kamigawa or similar payoffs convert the opponents' free creatures into upside for you. In Legacy and Vintage, the downside is less punishing since you're facing one opponent and legendary creatures are rarer in non-Commander formats, but a vanilla 5/5 trample for four doesn't clear the bar in those formats anyway. Modern has enough efficient threats that Iwamori simply doesn't compete.

Price Context
Current price
$0.43 bulk tier
At $0.43, Iwamori of the Open Fist is bulk — priced exactly where a narrow card with an upside-down effect should be. The price is stable because demand is low and unlikely to spike outside a dedicated legendary-matters reprint or theme deck.
