Ivy Elemental enters as an X/X for 1G plus X mana — a scalable green beater that gets as large as you're willing to pay. The ceiling is real in big-mana formats, but paying five or six mana for a vanilla creature with no ETB, no evasion, and no protection is a hard sell when comparable slots offer more.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Ivy Elemental occupies the awkward space of a mana sink that does exactly one thing: make a big body. Green decks that generate absurd amounts of mana — Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, Zaxara, the Exemplary — can dump excess into it, but they almost always have more impactful outlets. Pauper is where Ivy Elemental finds its most legitimate home; the format's creature ceiling is lower, and an uncounterable-cost X spell at common can end a game on a flooded board. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, it's never going to clear a constructed slot — the competition at every mana value is too stiff and a vanilla X/X simply doesn't close games fast enough.

Price Context
Current price
$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Ivy Elemental is deep bulk — the kind of card that ends up in a draft chaff box rather than a trade binder. Demand isn't coming; this price reflects what a 25-year-old vanilla X creature with no competitive history is actually worth.
