Iron-Heart Chimera gives you a flying, trample beater that pumps itself every time you cast another Chimera — a reasonable threat in the right tribal shell, but a blank in everything else. Four mana for a 1/3 that only matters if you've already committed to a Chimera strategy makes it a niche role-player, not a general-purpose card.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Iron-Heart Chimera is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but none of those formats have any real incentive to run it outside a dedicated Chimera tribal build. In Commander, the card exists almost entirely as a payoff in artifact-creature or Chimera-tribal decks — think Breya, Etherium Shaper or similar artifact-heavy commanders where the creature type does work. Legacy and Vintage have access to it but will never touch it; the power ceiling in those formats makes a slow, conditional beater irrelevant. Oathbreaker shares Commander's tribal upside in theory, but the compressed game speed makes Iron-Heart Chimera's pump trigger even harder to capitalize on.

$0.21 bulk tier
At $0.21, Iron-Heart Chimera is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not power. It won't appreciate unless Chimera tribal becomes a supported archetype, so pick it up for pennies if you need it and don't think twice about the cost.
