Ire of Kaminari deals damage equal to the number of arcane and instant spells in your graveyard — in a dedicated spellslinger or arcane-matters deck, that number gets large enough to kill a player outright from a single casting. Four mana for a sorcery is the ceiling on what this effect can cost and still be worth running, and it clears that bar only when the graveyard count is already high.

In Commander, Ire of Kaminari is a finisher for arcane-tribal and Magecraft-adjacent builds that have been churning through instants and sorceries all game — by the time you cast it, thirty-plus spells in the graveyard is a realistic number, which means a one-shot kill on a single target. Outside Commander, Pauper is the only format where it sees any real consideration, slotting into arcane-splice storm lists that can stack the graveyard quickly enough to make the damage lethal in a single turn. Legacy and Vintage are legal on paper, but Ire of Kaminari is too slow and too conditional to compete there. Modern has better finishers for spell-count payoffs, so it stays on the shelf.

Price Context
Current price
$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Ire of Kaminari is deep bulk — you'll find it in a commons box before you'd ever order it individually. The price reflects its narrow playability; it won't appreciate, but it also costs nothing to throw into the right deck.
