Into the Fray taps all creatures target player controls — a one-sided pseudo-fog that strips blockers or kills a combat step cold, all for two mana at instant speed. It's a narrow effect, but the ceiling is high when you're pushing through a lethal attack or protecting a key combat phase.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Into the Fray earns its slot in aggressive decks that need to punch through a stacked board — tapping down a single opponent's blockers at instant speed can convert an unblocked swing into a kill. It sees virtually no play in Legacy, Modern, or Vintage, where the effect is too conditional and creature-centric threats are answered more cleanly. Pauper is the one non-Commander format where it could conceivably appear, though even there dedicated aggro lists tend to prefer pump or evasion over a tap effect. Oathbreaker shares Commander's creature-dense dynamic and the same logic applies — most useful when you're closing out a game and one player's defense is the only thing standing in the way.

Price Context
Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Into the Fray is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not the effect. That price is stable because demand is low and supply is abundant; this isn't a card that spikes.
