Inkling Mascot enters with a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control, then replaces itself with a 2/1 flying token on death — reasonable on-board presence for four mana. The problem is that four mana buys far more in 2024, and the effect requires a board to already exist to matter.

Inkling Mascot is outclassed in every constructed format — four mana for a 2/2 that pumps your board once and leaves a 2/1 flier on death doesn't clear the bar in Modern, Pioneer, or Standard, where tempo is unforgiving. In Pauper it's legal but competes with more efficient commons at every point on the curve. Commander is its only real home, and even there it fits narrowly: counter-synergy commanders like Hamza, Guardian of Arashin or token-aristocrats builds that want cheap sacrifice fodder will find real use for Inkling Mascot, but the card never makes a generic 99.
