Inferno Hellion hits the board as a 7/1 for four mana — an absurd rate — but returns to your hand at end of turn unless you dump cards to keep it, making it a one-shot threat at best. Run it when you want a disposable red alpha strike, not a stable piece of your board.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Inferno Hellion is a fringe card in every format it's legal in. In Commander, it earns a niche slot in decks that want to trigger "whenever you discard" effects or need a sudden burst of damage through an otherwise empty board — Nekusar, the Mindrazer or Obosh, the Preypiercer strategies sometimes glance at it. In Modern and Pioneer, a 7/1 for four that vanishes is simply outclassed by threats that actually stick. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in it. The card is almost entirely a Commander question, and even there it's a narrow role-player.

Price Context
Current price
$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Inferno Hellion is deep bulk — you'll find copies in any common box without hunting. There's no plausible demand driver that changes that, so buy as many as you need and don't think twice about it.
