Infernal Vessel

In Commander, Infernal Vessel is a low-floor, high-ceiling tutor for any black deck that sacrifices creatures as part of its game plan — the 100-card singleton format makes unconditional tutoring premium, and this one asks for something most black decks already do. Competitive formats like Legacy, Vintage, and Modern have access to faster and cheaper tutors, so Infernal Vessel doesn't clear the bar there outside of dedicated sacrifice builds. In Pioneer and Standard, the narrower card pool reduces the competition, and any sacrifice-matters shell running black should evaluate it seriously. Across every 60-card format, the life cost and threshold condition make it a build-around rather than a staple, but in the right shell it performs above rate.
