Improvised Club enters as a 3/2 creature — the equipment half is almost beside the point — and the sacrifice-to-discard stapling gives aggressive and Voltron shells a free body that converts into disruption. It's a role-player, not a staple, and it earns its slot only in decks that specifically want cheap bodies or discard triggers.

In Commander, Improvised Club is fringe: the body is fine for an aggressive aristocrats list or a discard-matters build, but most tables run interaction that invalidates a 3/2 before it matters.
