Illuminate is a sorcery-speed deal-3-to-a-creature or player effect that also draws a card when you hit your third or more spell — respectable reach stapled to conditional card draw. The condition is real enough in spell-dense shells, but three damage is a low ceiling that limits Illuminate to decks built to trigger it rather than general-purpose red.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Illuminate earns a slot only in storm-adjacent or spellslinger decks that reliably cast three or more spells in a turn — outside that niche, three damage at sorcery speed is too small to matter. Legacy has the raw spell density to trigger it consistently, but more powerful burn and cantrip options crowd it out entirely. Vintage is technically legal and theoretically trivial to trigger, but Illuminate competes for slots with the best spells ever printed, so it sees no play there either. For Oathbreaker, the same spellslinger logic from Commander applies — if your signature spell or commander rewards chaining instants and sorceries, Illuminate can pull double duty as reach and card draw.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Illuminate is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick out of a commons box without thinking twice. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a popular Commander precon or spellslinger staple list puts it on the radar, which hasn't happened.
