Ihsan's Shade is a 5/3 protection-from-white body for five mana that blanks the most common removal color in Commander — Path to Exile, Swords to Plowshares, and most white board wipes simply don't touch it. The cost is real, though: five mana for a vanilla-ish threat that dies to black and red removal is a hard sell in a format where every slot competes hard.

Commander is the only home where Ihsan's Shade is even worth discussing. Protection from white is genuinely relevant in a format flooded with Swords to Plowshares and Wrath of God effects, and mono-black or black-heavy decks that want a resilient beater on a budget can find value here. In Legacy and Vintage it's simply outclassed — five mana for a 5/3 with no evasion beyond protection doesn't compete with what those formats offer at the same cost or less. The card is not legal in Modern, Pioneer, or Standard, which removes most of the competitive conversation entirely.
