Ichor Explosion puts a poison counter on every creature you control, then wipes the board of anything with three or more counters on it — a board wipe with a built-in Infect payoff stapled to the front. The cost of sacrificing a creature is real, but in a dedicated Toxic or Proliferate shell, this is one of the cleanest asymmetric sweepers available.

Commander is where Ichor Explosion actually lives — the 100-card singleton format rewards narrow, high-impact spells, and a board wipe that doubles as a poison-counter engine is exactly the kind of card Toxic and Proliferate commanders want. In Legacy and Vintage, the card is technically legal but competes with faster, cheaper interaction, and no competitive archetype in those formats cares about poison counters enough to justify six mana. Modern is the same story — the Infect decks that exist there win on turns two or three and have no interest in a six-mana sorcery. Ichor Explosion is a Commander card through and through.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Ichor Explosion is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or out of a bargain bin without a second thought. It's a niche enough card that the price is unlikely to move unless a new Toxic commander dramatically spikes demand.
