Icefall destroys a land and taps another one down until that land's controller's next turn — meaningful disruption stapled together, but five mana makes it one of the slowest ways to do it. Better options exist at every budget, and Icefall rarely makes the cut outside very specific land-hate strategies.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Icefall is too slow — five mana for land destruction is a tough sell in a format where you need efficient interaction and everyone has 40 life to work through. Legacy, Vintage, and Pauper all support Icefall legality, but none of those formats are looking for a five-mana sorcery to answer a single land when faster, cheaper options dominate. Pauper is arguably its best home if a dedicated land-disruption shell ever emerges, but that shell doesn't currently exist at a competitive level. Icefall is a fringe casual card across every format it's legal in.

Price Context
Current price
$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Icefall sits firmly in bulk territory and is unlikely to appreciate given the narrow, slow effect. It's cheap enough to throw into a pile without guilt, but don't expect the price floor to move.
