Hunt the Weak puts a +1/+1 counter on one of your creatures, then has it fight an opponent's creature — four mana for what amounts to conditional removal that leaves your creature better off. The problem is that four mana at sorcery speed is a steep ask when Pounce, Rabid Bite, and Tail Swipe do the same job cheaper and faster.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Hunt the Weak sits below the baseline — the format is too slow-punishing for four-mana sorcery removal that can whiff against a bigger threat, and green already has cleaner options at every price point. Pauper is the only format where Hunt the Weak sees any real consideration, and even there it's a fringe role-player competing with cheaper fight spells. In Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, and Vintage the card is technically legal but functionally invisible — no competitive shell wants this effect at this cost. If you're building a Pauper stompy list and need the ninth fight spell, it shows up; everywhere else, it doesn't.

Price Context
Current price
$0.04 bulk tier
At $0.04, Hunt the Weak is deep bulk — you're paying for a sleeve, not the card. That price reflects its replacability accurately, and there's no realistic floor to fall through.
