Homestead Courage pumps a creature and gives it vigilance for one white mana — and the flashback means you get to do it twice from a single card. It's a cheap trick with built-in card advantage, which is a higher bar cleared than most combat tricks manage.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Homestead Courage finds its best home in Pauper, where common-legal combat tricks with flashback are genuinely powerful and one extra toughness can flip a race. In Modern and Pioneer it's too small to matter — those formats kill you before vigilance and a +1/+1 bonus change the equation. Commander is the toughest sell: sorcery speed limits the surprise factor, and a deck slot in a 99-card singleton format demands more than two incremental pumps can offer unless you're explicitly building around go-wide token strategies or +1/+1 counter synergies. Legacy has too many efficient threats and answers for Homestead Courage to register.

Price Context
Current price
$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Homestead Courage is pure bulk — you're buying it for pennies and losing nothing if the slot gets cut. Bulk commons with flashback tend to stay cheap indefinitely, so there's no urgency either way.
