Hibernation returns all green permanents to their owners' hands — no targeting, no exceptions, instant speed — and the caster loses 2 life as the only real cost. Against a green-heavy table, this is a one-card reset button that leaves you untouched; against a green-light pod, it's a dead card.

In Commander, Hibernation is a meta-read card: in a pod with two or three green decks it punishes massive boards for two mana, but it contributes nothing against mono-black, mono-red, or artifact strategies. Legacy and Vintage occasionally see it as sideboard technology against green stompy or Elf strategies, where bouncing the entire board at instant speed at two mana is genuinely backbreaking. Modern has faster and more consistent answers, so Hibernation rarely earns a slot there. Across formats, the ceiling is high and the floor is zero — run it when you know green is coming.
