Helvault card art
Helvault exiles multiple creatures and permanents as they stack up on it, then releases them all at once when it leaves the battlefield — a built-in symmetry breaker that punishes the table for not answering it. Kami of Industry and similar artifact-untap effects can exploit the triggered exile repeatedly, but at five mana for a do-nothing artifact that hands opponents a clear target, the baseline rate is slow.

Helvault is Commander's natural home — the multiplayer board state gives it multiple targets to accumulate, and political pressure around "do you really want to blow it up?" creates genuine decision points. In Legacy and Vintage it's unplayable; five mana for conditional removal that undoes itself the moment the card dies has no place in those formats. Modern is technically legal but the same logic applies: any removal spell defeats Helvault and refunds your opponent's threats, so it never sees competitive play there. Stick to Commander, where the politics and the slower clock make the gamble at least interesting.

Price Context

Current price

$0.20 bulk tier

At $0.20, Helvault is firmly bulk — pick it out of a dollar box or a trade binder, not a vendor listing. Don't expect that price to move; it's a casual novelty with a narrow use case and no competitive demand driving it upward.
