Hellish Sideswipe deals damage equal to the attacking creature's power to any target — tacked onto a combat trick that pumps and gives trample until end of turn. The ceiling is real in go-wide aggro or Voltron shells, but a sorcery-speed restriction would make this good; at instant speed on a single creature, it competes with cleaner burn and removal spells that don't require a swinging attacker.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Hellish Sideswipe fits narrow Voltron strategies where you're already swinging with a 10/10 and want the damage to double as removal or a face-burn closer — Isshin, Two Heavens as One and attack-trigger commanders get the most mileage. Outside Commander, it's legal in Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially no competitive play in any of them; aggressive red decks in those formats have access to cleaner burn spells that don't require a creature already in combat. The conditional nature of the damage — no attacker, no trigger — keeps Hellish Sideswipe on the fringe across every format it's legal in.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Hellish Sideswipe is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not demand. There's no realistic path to price growth here; conditional combat tricks with narrow application don't accumulate casual or competitive demand over time.
