He Who Hungers card art
He Who Hungers lands and immediately forces an opponent to discard a card on your end step — every end step, as long as you sacrifice a Spirit or Arcane source to keep the trigger alive. The cost is real: this engine eats your own graveyard resources, so it only belongs in decks that generate Spirit tokens or have recursive fodder, and King of the Oathbreakers is the obvious home.

King of the Oathbreakers produces Spirit tokens on command, which means He Who Hungers has a permanent, self-renewing fuel source — you're sacrificing tokens the deck was already making, draining every opponent's hand in the process.

Commander is the correct home for He Who Hungers — a repeatable, symmetry-free discard effect that scales to three opponents is exactly what multiplayer needs. In Legacy and Vintage it's too slow and too fragile; three mana for a conditional trigger competes poorly against the raw speed of those formats. Oathbreaker is worth considering in Spirit-tribal builds for the same reasons Commander is, just at a smaller table. He Who Hungers sees essentially no competitive constructed play, but in Commander it fills a genuine niche as a soft lock piece in decks that can consistently feed it.

Price Context

Current price

$0.62 bulk tier

At $0.62, He Who Hungers is pure bulk — the price of being a narrow, niche-specific card with limited reprint pressure. That low price is stable: it's not going up unless Spirit tribal breaks out, but it's also not a card anyone is dumping, so $0.62 is a fair floor for what you're getting.
