Haunted Hellride dumps your entire nonland hand onto the battlefield when you attack with five or more creatures — massive on-board presence for three mana. The catch is sorcery-speed vulnerability and the requirement that your board is already wide, making this a payoff card rather than an engine.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Haunted Hellride belongs in go-wide aggressive decks that routinely swing with five-plus creatures by turn four or five — token strategies and combat-matters builds get the most out of it. Outside Commander, the card is legal in Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it doesn't see meaningful competitive play in any of them; the attack prerequisite is too slow for formats where interaction is dense and board wipes are cheap. Oathbreaker is the only alternative 60-card-adjacent format where a token planeswalker shell could realistically trigger it, but even there it's a fringe consideration.

$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Haunted Hellride is deep bulk — zero barrier to picking up a copy if the effect fits your deck. Bulk rares with narrow conditions don't typically climb without a competitive breakout, so treat this as a cheap role-player rather than a spec.
