Hasran Ogress card art
Hasran Ogress puts a 2/2 body on the board for two mana, but the controller must pay 3 life each time they don't use it to deal damage on attack — a tax that bleeds you out if you're not deploying it aggressively every turn. It's a glass-cannon beatdown piece, not a value engine, and it's only worth running if your deck is built to push damage through fast.

Hasran Ogress is a relic of early aggressive design — a 2/2 for BB with a built-in punishment for passivity that made more sense when life totals were the only resource that mattered. In Commander it's nearly unplayable: 40 life means opponents can absorb the pressure indefinitely, and the 3-life tax punishes you the moment a board stall develops, which happens constantly in a four-player game. In Pauper and Legacy it's at least legal in formats where early pressure matters, but it's been long outclassed by two-drop creatures with no drawbacks or upside text. Vintage has access to it but has zero reason to run it.

Price Context

Current price

$4.08 cheap tier

At $4.08, Hasran Ogress sits in a price tier that reflects collector and curiosity demand rather than gameplay value — it's an old card with a small supply, not a staple anyone is actively sleeving up. The price is unlikely to compress further given its age, but buying in at four dollars for a card that won't see competitive play is a poor exchange.
