Harrier Griffin locks down one of your opponents' creatures each turn — a repeatable tap effect stapled to a 3/4 flying body is legitimate on-board pressure and control in one card. The five mana cost is real, but in Commander that rate buys you a threat that demands an answer.

Harrier Griffin is a Commander card through and through — the repeatable tap ability scales with longer games and multiplayer threat density in ways it simply can't in 1v1 formats. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage it's strictly too slow and too low-impact to see play; cheaper, more efficient options exist at every point on the curve. Commander is where the sustained tap effect earns its keep, particularly in white decks that want to stall aggressive strategies or protect a combo piece by neutralizing the biggest blocker on board each turn.

Price Context
Current price
$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Harrier Griffin is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a commons box without a second thought. Bulk rares don't appreciate without a reprint spike or sudden format relevance, neither of which is on the horizon here.
