Hard-Won Jitte lands counters fast and converts them into life, -1/-1 pressure, or power boosts — three modes that stay relevant from turn four to the endgame. The cost is that it needs combat hits to charge, so a stalled board turns it off entirely; Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos sidesteps that problem by generating tokens that want to swing anyway.

Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos
Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos floods the board with attacking tokens, and every hit charges Hard-Won Jitte — the drain and pump modes then snowball the same board state Alexios is already building toward.

In Commander, Hard-Won Jitte is a low-cost equipment that earns its slot in any aggro or go-wide build — the -1/-1 mode handles early blockers, the life drain buys time, and the power boost closes games when combat math gets close. It's outclassed by Umezawa's Jitte in raw power but costs a fraction of the price and plays similarly in practice. In 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer it's largely a footnote, since creature strategies there want faster payoffs and Equipment decks already run stronger options. Legacy has no real use case for it at all — the bar is too high. For Oathbreaker it's the same read as Commander: fine in an aggressive shell, unremarkable elsewhere.

$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Hard-Won Jitte is bulk — you're picking it up out of a commons box, not tracking it down. Bulk rares this functional rarely climb, so don't expect appreciation; just run it if the slot fits.
