Grub's Command does real work for two mana — three modes covering interaction, recursion, and board presence in one spell. Outside of a Grub, Storied Matriarch deck where it's essentially a staple, it's a role-player that only earns its slot when multiple modes line up on the same turn.

Commanders with the highest synergy
Grub, Storied Matriarch
Grub's Command appears in 73% of Grub, Storied Matriarch decks for obvious reasons — the spell is named after her, but more importantly the modes map directly onto what the deck wants: protecting the commander, recurring creatures from the graveyard, and generating Insects to fuel the sacrifice and token engines she runs.

Wort, Boggart Auntie
Wort, Boggart Auntie runs Grub's Command as a Goblin spell that pulls double duty on a tribe that wants creatures back from the bin — the recursion mode pairs well with Wort's own end-of-turn reanimation trigger, letting the deck rebuild after a wipe.

Shattergang Brothers
Shattergang Brothers slots in Grub's Command for the flexibility: a Jund sacrifice deck can use the removal mode to clear a blocker, the recursion to return a sacrificed threat, and still squeeze value from whichever third mode fits the board state.

In Commander, Grub's Command earns its slot cleanly in Grub, Storied Matriarch builds and holds a reasonable place in any Jund or Rakdos deck that wants a flexible instant with three relevant axes. The modal design means it's rarely a dead card, which matters in a 40-life format where variance punishes narrow spells. In competitive 60-card formats — Modern, Pioneer, Standard — it hasn't found traction, and that's expected: modal spells at two mana need to threaten the game state immediately, and Grub's Command's power is spread too thin to pull dedicated slots from focused strategies. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for the same reason. Commander is where this card lives.

$0.84 bulk tier
At $0.84, Grub's Command sits comfortably in bulk territory — cheap enough to throw into any Jund Commander build without a second thought. Bulk rares with narrow application tend to stay flat, so grab it for the deck you need it for now and don't expect it to move.
