Grisly Ritual kills a creature and replaces itself — two effects stapled together for three mana at instant speed. It's a fine rate in Pauper and budget Commander, but it never competes with Murder plus a cantrip in formats where those exist.

Grisly Ritual is most relevant in Pauper, where instant-speed removal that draws a card is genuinely scarce and the three-mana slot is workable.
