Grim Discovery gets back any combination of two lands and/or creatures from your graveyard for two mana — a clean two-for-one that scales well in self-mill and sacrifice shells. It's not flashy, but any deck that regularly fills its graveyard will find real value here.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Grim Discovery earns its slot in graveyard-centric decks — self-mill, reanimator, and sacrifice builds that want redundant recursion without spending premium slots on it. Pauper is where it punches hardest, since common-legal recursion is thin and a two-mana two-for-one is genuinely strong at that power level. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage the competition from more efficient recursion spells is steep enough that Grim Discovery rarely makes the cut outside of budget or niche builds. It's legal across those formats but not a fixture in any of them.

Price Context
Current price
$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, Grim Discovery is deep bulk — grab a copy out of any dollar bin without thinking twice. Price movement on a common with this low a profile is essentially zero, so there's no reason to stock up or hunt foils for value.
