Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar turns every blocked attacker into a card and every unblocked attacker into a choice — draw or return to hand for another ninjutsu trigger. Three mana for a 2/3 that generates this much card advantage is a steal, and Captain N'ghathrod decks are correct to include it in over 80% of builds.

Captain N'ghathrod
Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar is nearly auto-include in Captain N'ghathrod because every ninjutsu creature that connects draws a card, and anything that gets blocked comes back to hand to threaten the ninjutsu loop again — the two cards form a self-sustaining engine.

Goro-Goro and Satoru
Goro-Goro and Satoru pushes a go-wide attack strategy where some creatures will inevitably get blocked, and Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar converts those blocked attackers into card draw while returning bounce targets to hand to replay for value.

Umbris, Fear Manifest
Umbris, Fear Manifest wants evasive attackers getting through repeatedly, and Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar rewards that by drawing cards on unblocked hits while bouncing back anything the opponent tries to trade with — keeping the pressure up and the hand full.

Felix Five-Boots
Felix Five-Boots doubles triggers from conniving and attacking creatures, so Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar's draw-on-unblocked trigger becomes two cards per connecting attacker under Felix's effect.

Satoru Umezawa
Satoru Umezawa ninjutsu decks need to keep cycling large threats back to hand, and Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar provides both the card draw to find those threats and the bounce effect that reloads ninjutsu creatures for free.

Commander is where Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar earns its paycheck — multiplayer tables mean more potential attackers getting through, more blocked creatures converting to card draw, and a 2/3 body that's relevant enough to protect while the engine runs. In Legacy and Vintage, three mana for a value creature without immediate board impact is far too slow against decks that win before it pays off. Modern and Pioneer are similar — combat-based value engines at this cost compete poorly against the efficiency of those formats. Grazilaxx is a Commander card first, an Oathbreaker option second, and effectively irrelevant everywhere else.
