Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Grave Consequences is a low-cost answer to the graveyard-heavy decks that dominate the format — Meren, Karador, and Araumi tables all hate seeing it on turn two. Legacy sees dedicated graveyard decks like Reanimator and Dredge, where the selective-exile clause hurts its stock; opponents will simply protect Griselbrand or Narcomoeba and move on. Vintage is legal but the card sees no meaningful play there. Oathbreaker is the one format where its cheap mana cost and life-gain rider could make it a genuine role-player in tight curves.

Price Context
Current price
$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Grave Consequences is deep bulk — you're paying for function, not scarcity. That price is stable; there's no scenario that pushes a narrow graveyard hoser past a dollar.
