Grave Birthing exiles a card from any graveyard, puts a 2/2 black Zombie token onto the battlefield, and replaces itself with a card draw — all for three mana at instant speed. That three-in-one package is the entire argument: graveyard hate that generates a body and cantrips is a real rate.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |

In Commander, Grave Birthing is a niche role-player in Zombie tribal or graveyard-synergy builds that want interaction doubling as resource generation — the instant-speed cantrip makes it a reasonable inclusion in decks that would otherwise run a blank graveyard-hate spell. In Pauper, the common slot is crowded with efficient interaction, and Grave Birthing's three-mana cost is a real obstacle when one-mana graveyard hate like Relic of Progenitus exists at higher rarities and Nihil Spellbomb exists at common — it sees no meaningful play there. Legacy, Vintage, Modern, and Pioneer all have access to much faster and cheaper graveyard disruption, so Grave Birthing is effectively irrelevant in those formats despite being legal.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Grave Birthing is deep bulk — it costs less than a sleeve and is easy to pick up in any common box. Don't expect that price to move; the card sees no competitive play and has enough supply that demand will never create upward pressure.
