Grasping Tentacles puts a creature token into play and binds a target creature to the battlefield until it leaves — permanent pseudo-removal stapled to a threat, at instant speed. The cost is real: this is a six-mana sorcery-speed play in most configurations, and at that price tag it needs to lock down something game-ending to justify the slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Grasping Tentacles occupies the niche of removal that replaces itself with a body — useful in Dimir or Sultai control shells that want to stall long enough to win on the back end. Legacy and Vintage have access to it on paper, but neither format is interested in six-mana removal when cheaper disruption dominates. The card is not legal in Modern, Pioneer, Standard, or Pauper, which is where most of its potential audience would otherwise live. In Oathbreaker, the compressed game speed makes this even harder to justify, though a planeswalker-centric shell that can protect itself might find a use for the token.

Price Context
Current price
$0.55 bulk tier
At $0.55, Grasping Tentacles sits firmly in bulk territory — easy to pick up, easy to cut. Bulk rares at this price rarely climb without tournament demand, and this one has no competitive home to pull it upward.
