Goldhound card art
Goldhound is a one-mana non-Human that taps to advance your mana — exactly the profile aggressive red-white decks want in the early turns. The cost is negligible; the payoff in Winota, Joiner of Forces builds is a free trigger off a creature that was already pulling weight.

Winota, Joiner of Forces

Winota, Joiner of Forces

24.8% of decks · synergy 0.23

Goldhound is a one-drop non-Human who generates Treasure, meaning it pulls double duty: it hits play early to help cast Winota, Joiner of Forces on curve, then stays on board as the exact creature type her attack trigger wants to count.

02

Slicer, Hired Muscle

19.2% of decks · synergy 0.17

Slicer, Hired Muscle runs Goldhound because it needs cheap non-Humans to crew or block while Slicer is under an opponent's control — a one-mana body that also floats mana fills that slot without costing a card's worth of tempo.

In Commander, Goldhound earns its slot almost exclusively in non-Human tribal strategies, specifically Winota, Joiner of Forces, where the one-mana-to-Treasure ceiling matters and creature type matters more than raw power. Outside of Commander, Goldhound sees occasional Pauper play as a cheap Treasure producer in aggressive red shells, though it competes with other efficient one-drops for those slots. In Modern and Pioneer it's largely outclassed — the formats move faster and demand more from a one-drop than a single Treasure and a 1/1 body. Legacy and Vintage have no use for it. Pauper is the one non-Commander home where Goldhound can occasionally justify a slot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.19 bulk tier

At $0.19, Goldhound is firmly bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. Bulk rares and commons at this price point tend to stay here; there's no pressure to pick it up speculatively, but there's also no reason to hesitate if you need a copy.
