Golden Egg card art
Golden Egg enters tapped, replaces itself with a draw when sacrificed, and fixes any color you need — the whole package costs two mana. It's a fine role-player in artifact-matters shells and the primary food source for Syr Ginger, the Meal Ender, but outside those contexts it's a budget utility piece you run only when the synergy is real.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Syr Ginger, the Meal Ender

Syr Ginger, the Meal Ender

30.1% of decks · synergy 0.29

Golden Egg is one of the cleanest food sources for Syr Ginger, the Meal Ender — it enters on curve, draws a card when sacrificed, and pumps Ginger while triggering any food-payoff in the deck. The 30% inclusion rate reflects how naturally it slots into the engine.

02
Gandalf the White

Gandalf the White

18.3% of decks · synergy 0.18

Gandalf the White cares about casting noncreature spells and bouncing them for value, and Golden Egg is a cheap, self-replacing artifact that triggers that loop without eating a meaningful resource. The card draw on sacrifice means you rarely feel behind after cracking it.

03
The Goose Mother

The Goose Mother

14.5% of decks · synergy 0.14

The Goose Mother generates food tokens and scales on the number of food you control, so Golden Egg shows up as guaranteed early food that replaces itself when you're ready to cash in. It's filler that earns its slot purely by matching what the commander already wants.

In Commander, Golden Egg is strictly a synergy card — artifact-matters, food-matters, or sacrifice-value commanders justify it; generic lists should skip it for faster ramp. In Pauper it sees occasional play in artifact combo shells where cheap sacrificeable artifacts with built-in draw matter more than raw power. Modern and Pioneer have largely left Golden Egg behind as those formats demand more immediate board impact for two mana, though it surfaced in Affinity-adjacent builds when food synergies briefly had legs. Legacy and Vintage have zero interest — the card simply doesn't operate at the speed those formats require.

$0.28 bulk tier

At $0.28, Golden Egg is deep bulk — you can pick up a playset for under a dollar without thinking about it. Bulk artifacts with narrow synergy profiles don't appreciate, so buy exactly as many as you need and move on.
