Goblin Sappers turns any attacking Goblin into a potential land wipe — if your opponent doesn't block, you sacrifice and blow up a land, which is punishing pressure on top of combat damage. The cost is real: you're paying 2R for a 2/2 that only matters if opponents let Goblins through, which they won't once Sappers hits the table.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Goblin Sappers belongs exclusively in Goblin tribal decks that already go wide — the effect scales with board density, and a single unblocked Goblin is rarely worth the setup cost against three opponents. Legacy and Vintage have the raw card power to make land destruction relevant, but neither format wants a 2/2 for 2R enabling a conditional, sorcery-speed effect when dedicated land destruction exists. Pauper is the most honest home: common Goblin synergies are real there, and taxing an opponent's mana matters more in a lower-power environment. Outside of dedicated Goblin builds, Goblin Sappers is too narrow to justify the slot in any format.

$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Goblin Sappers is deep bulk — a pickup cost so low it's essentially free if you're sleeving up a Goblin tribal Commander deck. Bulk rares with narrow applications don't appreciate, so treat this as a convenience buy, not a hold.
