Gloomlance kills a creature and forces a discard for five mana — passable rate at sorcery speed, but the two-for-one only matters if the discard hits something relevant. Playable in Commander as a budget slot; too slow and too conditional for anything else.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Gloomlance fills a budget removal slot in black decks that want incidental hand disruption alongside the kill, particularly in discard-synergy builds where the forced discard triggers payoffs. Five mana at sorcery speed is the ceiling on how far it scales — optimized tables will find it too slow, but casual pods rarely punish the tempo loss. In Pauper, black has cheaper, cleaner answers and Gloomlance doesn't make the cut. Legacy and Vintage have the same problem: the format's removal bar is Fatal Push and Swords to Plowshares, and five mana earns nothing there.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Gloomlance is deep bulk — pick it up without thinking twice if the slot calls for it. Price has no upward pressure; it's a common with no competitive home, so it stays at this floor.
