Gleancrawler card art
Gleancrawler returns every creature that died under your control to your hand at end of turn — a six-mana 6/6 trample that converts a board wipe into a full restock. The cost is steep and the payoff is slow, but in any deck that wants to sacrifice creatures repeatedly, it's a genuine engine.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

Commander is where Gleancrawler actually lives — long games, sacrifice synergies, and opponents who pack board wipes all make the recursion relevant. Legacy and Vintage are theoretically legal but the six-mana slot competes with format-defining threats, and no competitive shell wants this effect at that speed. Modern is the same story: six mana for a value engine that doesn't win immediately is simply too slow for the format's pace. Gleancrawler is a Commander card through and through, best in shells that deliberately feed the graveyard and can afford to invest six mana on a turn they expect a wrath.
