Glarecaster redirects all damage from a source you choose to any target — creatures, players, planeswalkers — turning your opponent's Volcano Hellion or combat alpha into a political assassination tool. The five-mana body and seven-mana activation are steep, but the effect is unique enough that no cheaper card does exactly this job.

Commander is where Glarecaster finds its only real home. Multiplayer tables mean there's almost always a damage source worth hijacking, and the political leverage of holding seven mana open changes how opponents attack. Legacy and Vintage are legal but irrelevant — seven mana for a damage redirect doesn't compete at those speeds, and no competitive deck wants a five-mana 3/4 with upside that slow. Oathbreaker is legal, but the smaller pod sizes reduce the number of targets worth redirecting, making Glarecaster a fringe pick at best.
