Glaive of the Guildpact turns every Gate you control into a +1/+1 bonus and menace for one mana — the stat boost scales hard in the right shell. Nine-Fingers Keene is the obvious home, where a Gate-heavy mana base means the equipped creature is frequently a 5/5 or larger with built-in evasion for two total mana.

Nine-Fingers Keene
Nine-Fingers Keene's entire game plan runs through Gates, so Glaive of the Guildpact converts that mana base into a direct damage multiplier — equip it to Keene herself and every attack threatens to close the game through menace while the Gate count climbs.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Glaive of the Guildpact is a Commander card through and through — the Gate synergy requires a dedicated deck to fire, and Commander is the only format where building around Gates is both viable and rewarding. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but functionally irrelevant; equipment that requires a specific basic-land-type payoff to be competitive has no path to those formats' creature-equip shells. Oathbreaker could theoretically support a Gate build, but the compressed game length makes the scaling too slow to matter. Play it in Commander's Gate-tribal lists and nowhere else.

Price Context

$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Glaive of the Guildpact is bulk — grab a copy without thinking twice if you're building around Nine-Fingers Keene or any Gate-heavy Commander list. Bulk equipment with narrow synergy rarely appreciates, so buy it for the deck, not the binder.
