Gird for Battle puts two +1/+1 counters on the board for one mana — spread across two creatures or stacked on one — making it one of the most efficient counter-delivery spells available. It's a staple in any deck that rewards counter accumulation, and a blank in any deck that doesn't.

In Commander, Gird for Battle earns its slot exclusively in +1/+1 counter decks — outside that archetype, a one-mana instant that neither draws a card nor removes a threat is too low-impact for a 99-card singleton format. In those counter-focused shells, though, the instant speed matters: you can respond to a board wipe by putting counters on two creatures before they die, or pump into combat to take a trade. In competitive formats like Legacy and Modern, the card has no meaningful presence — dedicated aggro runs better one-drops and combo ignores it entirely. Pioneer offers the same verdict. The card is cleanest in Commander, where synergy density can make one mana for two counters look like a bargain.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Gird for Battle is deep bulk — you're buying playsets out of a dollar bin, not hunting it down. That price is stable because demand is narrow and supply is high; don't expect movement in either direction.
