Gilded Light gives you and your stuff blanket protection from spells and abilities until end of turn for two mana — then it cycles, so running it costs you nothing in card equity. It's a niche include, but in spell-slinging or storm-adjacent Commander shells that need to protect a critical turn, it earns its slot.

In Commander, Gilded Light is a fringe protection piece for decks that need to resolve a combo turn unimpeded — the cycling means you don't pay a real card for the insurance. In Legacy and Vintage, faster and more flexible protection spells exist, so Gilded Light rarely competes. Pauper is its most interesting non-Commander home, where the cantrip effect is harder to come by and blanket protection is scarce at common. Modern has enough cheap interaction that a sorcery-speed protection spell is almost always too slow to matter.
