Gilded Cerodon is a 4/4 for five mana that makes itself unblockable by Desert-typed lands — a narrow condition that almost never comes online in competitive play. Outside of dedicated Desert synergy builds, it's a vanilla beater that doesn't earn its slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Gilded Cerodon sees no meaningful play in any constructed format — Legacy, Modern, and Vintage all have far better five-drop threats, and the Desert-unblockability clause is irrelevant without a dedicated land package. Pauper's card pool includes more efficient commons that don't ask you to build around a land subtype. In Commander, Desert synergy decks helmed by something like Hazezon, Shaper of Sand or a similar Ixalan/Amonkhet-flavored general are the only shells where Gilded Cerodon even warrants consideration, and even there it competes with more impactful Desert payoffs.

unknown tier
Pricing data isn't available for Gilded Cerodon at this time, but given its narrow playability and bulk-rare status, expect it to sit at or near bulk commons pricing. It's not a card worth tracking down unless you're specifically completing a Desert-tribal Commander list.
