Gild card art
Gild exiles a creature and hands you a Gold token for the trouble — unconditional exile at four mana is real removal, and the mana rebate softens the cost enough to matter. It's not the most efficient spell in black's removal suite, but exile over destroy earns it a slot whenever indestructible threats or graveyard recursion are problems.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict

oathbreaker

Commander is where Gild earns its keep — four mana is acceptable in a format full of indestructible gods, recursive threats, and creatures that punish death triggers, and the Gold token offsets the tempo loss well enough that you're not falling behind on curve. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, four mana unconditional removal is far too slow when cheaper answers like Fatal Push and Murderous Cut exist, so Gild sees essentially no competitive play there. Vintage is the same story — the card is legal but irrelevant at that speed. Stick to Commander and Oathbreaker, where the exile clause does work that destroy simply cannot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.12 bulk tier

At $0.12, Gild is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and postage, not the card itself. Bulk rares at this price point don't move much in either direction, so grab a copy whenever you need it and don't think twice about the cost.
