Giant Trap Door Spider removes one creature with flying or islandwalk from combat — once, at sorcery speed, for two mana across two colors — and that's the entire résumé. For a permanent that taps to do what a combat trick does, the rate is poor and the slot is almost always better spent on unconditional removal.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Giant Trap Door Spider is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Commander, the format where niche utility cards get the most charitable readings, it fails the basic test: tapping one creature with flying doesn't affect the board state of three opponents, and the Gruul color identity locks it out of the blue decks that actually care about flying blockers. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a two-mana do-almost-nothing permanent. Giant Trap Door Spider is a trivia answer, not a role-player.

Price Context
Current price
$1.95 cheap tier
At $1.95, Giant Trap Door Spider sits in the cheap tier almost entirely on novelty and name recognition, not demand from competitive play. The price is unlikely to erode further, but there's no functional reason to spend even this much on it for a real deck.
