Geist-Honored Monk card art
Geist-Honored Monk lands as a 5/5 with vigilance at minimum and immediately floods the board with two Spirit tokens — that's three bodies for five mana, with the power and toughness scaling upward as your creature count grows. It's a natural fit wherever Ranar the Ever-Watchful wants token production, and it can satisfy Mayael's Aria's 5-power threshold the turn it enters. The cost is real — five mana is a lot to ask before you see a single attack step — but the immediate board presence makes it worth it in the right shell.

01
Ranar the Ever-Watchful

Ranar the Ever-Watchful

40.5% of decks · synergy 0.39

Ranar the Ever-Watchful turns every Spirit token Geist-Honored Monk produces into an additional 1/1 Spirit, meaning a single cast of Geist-Honored Monk can snowball into four or more bodies if Ranar is already online.

02
Winota, Joiner of Forces

Winota, Joiner of Forces

36.4% of decks · synergy 0.35

Winota, Joiner of Forces needs non-Human attackers to trigger her ability, and the Spirit tokens from Geist-Honored Monk are exactly that — two free non-Human bodies that immediately threaten Winota triggers on the following combat.

03
Thalisse, Reverent Medium

Thalisse, Reverent Medium

13.0% of decks · synergy 0.13

Thalisse, Reverent Medium rewards token creation at end of turn with additional Spirits, and Geist-Honored Monk's two-token entry feeds that trigger directly, compounding the board state every turn cycle.

04
Brago, King Eternal

Brago, King Eternal

10.8% of decks · synergy 0.09

Brago, King Eternal can blink Geist-Honored Monk during the declare blockers step, resetting its enters-the-battlefield trigger each combat and steadily inflating both the token count and Geist-Honored Monk's own power and toughness.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is the obvious home for Geist-Honored Monk — the format's longer games let the token-count payoff accumulate, and Spirit-tribal or token-go-wide strategies have the density to make its power scaling meaningful. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but invisible; five mana for a creature that doesn't win the game immediately doesn't compete when the format is ending on turn two or three. Modern similarly has no interest — the rate is too slow against a field of cheaper, more consistent threats. Geist-Honored Monk is a Commander card through and through, and that's fine.

Price Context

Current price

$0.76 bulk tier

At $0.76, Geist-Honored Monk sits firmly in bulk territory — easy to acquire, easy to trade for, and unlikely to spike given its narrow Commander niche. The price is stable; this isn't a card that sees surprise cross-format demand, so what you see is what you get.
