Gavony Unhallowed

Gavony Unhallowed is a Commander card — its payoff scales with the kind of board-state manipulation and sacrifice loops that simply don't exist at competitive speed in older formats. In Modern and Pioneer it's too slow and too conditional; a 2/2 base that requires setup to grow doesn't compete with the threats those formats present on turns two and three. Pauper is the one non-Commander context where it has a real conversation to be had, slotting into sacrifice-value shells that can sequence a few deaths before dropping it. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters. In Commander, Gavony Unhallowed is a solid role-player in aristocrats builds — not a staple, but a payoff card that earns its slot when the engine is already humming.
