Gargantuan Leech enters as a 6/6 for four mana — legitimately ahead of rate — but it drains one life from you during each of your upkeeps for every Forest you control, which in any green deck is a clock against yourself. The payoff is real; the cost is steep enough that you need a life-gain engine to justify the slot.

In Commander, Gargantuan Leech is a fringe inclusion: the 6/6 body is relevant early, but the cumulative life drain compounds across a long game and multiple Forest-heavy opponents will outpace your starting 40 faster than you expect. Constructed formats like Standard, Pioneer, and Modern have enough aggressive green shells where the raw stats matter, but the self-damage clause makes it a liability against burn or in races where you cannot offset the loss. Legacy and Vintage have far more efficient threats at the same cost, so Gargantuan Leech doesn't compete there. Oathbreaker, with its lower life total of 20, makes the upkeep drain punishing enough to disqualify it outside of dedicated life-gain builds.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Gargantuan Leech is deep bulk — it costs nothing to pick up and nothing to lose. Don't expect that to change; the self-damage clause limits demand to a narrow slice of life-gain or Leech-tribal builds, and supply is not scarce.
