Gaelicat enters as a 2/2 with flash and ward 1, then grows whenever you cast instants or sorceries — a threat that punishes opponents for ignoring it and rewards spell-heavy builds for playing their game plan. The cost is that it needs a critical mass of instants and sorceries around it to pull ahead, so it earns its slot in dedicated spellslinger lists and nowhere else.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Gaelicat slots naturally into Izzet or Temur spellslinger decks where every cantrip and removal spell doubles as a pump trigger — the flash clause means you can drop it at end of turn and immediately start accruing counters on your next spell. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, it's too slow and too easily blocked to matter; dedicated tempo and prowess shells have better options at the same mana cost. Pauper is where Gaelicat could find the most traction outside Commander, since the common card pool rewards exactly the kind of instant-dense, low-curve play it wants. Legacy and Vintage have no interest — the power floor is simply too high.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Gaelicat is deep bulk — pick up as many copies as you need without a second thought. Bulk rares with narrow homes rarely spike, so don't expect the price to move unless a high-profile Commander list pushes demand.
